THE AMERICAN DECAY *

Who We Are

The American Decay is a collective of creatives and technologists united by one shared pull: the urge to find what's been left behind. We explore abandoned buildings, forgotten infrastructure, and historical sites across the Mid-Atlantic region, documenting them through photos and videos before time, weather, and demolition crews finish the job neglect already started.

We're not archaeologists or trespassers looking for trouble. We're storytellers with cameras, drawn to the architecture, the history, and the quiet strangeness of places that used to matter and haven't yet been erased.

What We Do

  • Urban exploration (urbex): visiting abandoned factories, hospitals, schools, military sites, estates, and other structures left to decay

  • Historical site documentation: photographing sites of regional and national historical significance before they're lost to demolition or collapse

  • Photography and visual storytelling: capturing the architecture, light, and texture of decay in a way that respects the history of each location

  • Community: bringing together photographers, technologists, and curious explorers who want to see the region's hidden history firsthand

Where We Explore

Our content is rooted in the Mid-Atlantic, with most of our locations found in:

  • The DMV area [Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia]

  • Pennsylvania

  • New York

  • New Jersey
